It has been a tough year and I know this blog is kind of late because it has been a really long time since lockdown began but I have adjusted and after all this time, I can provide the best tips for working from home. There might be some people out there who still haven’t adjusted but that’s okay because this blog is for you.
1. Separate your home and workspace: This is perhaps the most important tip in the book. You need to have an allotted space for work and an allotted space for your downtime. If you are no able to separate your home and work life then you will never be able to get anything done. If you are able to distinguish between these spaces then you know when you have to finish work and you know when you get to relax.
2. Make to-do lists: This is important as it gives you a rough sketch of your busy day. If you don’t have an idea of what you have to get done then you will waste the rest of your day trying to figure out what you have to do. Make your to-do lists wisely. Don’t overdo it and put your priorities on the top
3. Put on some music in the background: Music makes everything more fun. Sometimes that can be your sole purpose of motivation as well. You would want to do something because you know that you get to listen to music and in some cases, it may help speed up your entire process
4. Start as easily as possible: This is something I learned the hard way. Start as soon as you can so then you can finish as soon as possible. You don’t want to drag a task on too long. It is my theory that your productivity decreases as the day goes on so try to get an early start, in order to finish early
5. Manage your time correctly: Don’t drag a task on for too long. It will take you longer to complete and you won’t be able to finish other tasks either spend your day doing your biggest task (If it is really important) or use it to finish plenty of small tasks. It really that simple
6. Study in an isolated room: It only makes sense, try removing all your distractions. You can use this as motivation- give yourself a reward after you finish your tasks. If you isolate yourself, you will more likely finish the task sooner
7. Try having a routine: When I say this I don’t mean the same exact routine every day, this can decrease your productivity. Having to do the same thing every day is not fun, remember to change it up. If you have some sort of slight routine, it can help you finish your task faster. Now due to lockdown, every day feels the same so remember to try to switch it up
8. Take breaks: It’s always a nice thing to take a break. If you do too much in one go, you will probably not finish that task to the best of your ability. Reward yourself after every task. Remember taking breaks is good but try not to take really long breaks because then you will waste time and you won’t be able to complete your next task properly
9. Get dressed: I know this probably sounds so bizarre but getting dressed can help you. You know you’re supposed to complete a task and if you wear the clothes you lounge in, it makes you feel really lazy so try getting dressed, it changes your mindset towards your task.
10. Keep your workspace clean: If your workspace is cluttered, your mind becomes cluttered. You spend the entire time while you're completing the task thinking about how you have to clean your workspace. It helps focus better and helps you find things immediately
11. Don’t bite off more than you can chew: This is really important because if you try to complete too many tasks, you might not end up giving your full attention to each one of them. You might end up only partly completing that task which just ends up increasing your work. You would rather complete 3 tasks properly than 6 tasks partly
12. Find your most productive time: Many people work differently at different times of the day. Some are morning birds, some are night owls. Find the time your most productive and save the task which needs your most attention for that time
13. Time block your day: I know that this is not for everyone but this is the most useful thing to do. The night before, time blocks the rest of your day. It’s okay if you don’t complete everything but you will be able to complete everything to the best of your ability
14. Be regular: If you are not regular then all your effort has gone in vain because it only helps if you are regular. You will get your work done in time for your deadline. It will save you a lot of stress
15. Stay motivated: I know considering the times that this is very hard but use small things to be your motivation- like your breaks, the rewards you give yourself, or even the result of the task your working towards. I'll put some motivating quotes so right after you finish reading this blog you can go back to finishing your task:
· Do what makes you happy
· Align your actions to your goals
· You only fail when you stop trying
· Stop doubting yourself, work hard and make it happen
· Everything you need is already within you
· Stop being so afraid to be confident
· Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Always be kind
Hope you guys enjoyed this blog. I hope after you finish reading it you will complete the task you had previously taken on. Remember to always stay motivated and work hard. Everything will work out in the end.
