Things I learnt from Movies

I feel like movies teach us so many things but we never really pick up on it. There is a reason we make movies, besides entertainment. Movies are so well thought out and so much time and work go into making a movie.

1) A number doesn’t define you: From the documentary- Miss Americana (A documentary based on Taylor Swift as she tells us about many major events in her life). It could be any kind of number- the number of followers you have, how much you weigh, how many friends you have. None of this matters and remember that to define is to limit. Don’t let it affect you too much because most of the social media is superficial. Most of it is staged, edited, photoshopped, and many things that you are not aware of. Reminder: Social media is fake

"I Know That Without Me Writing My Own Songs, I Wouldn't Be Here."- Taylor Swift

2) Everything is not what it seems: From the movie- Enola Holmes (starring Millie Bobby Brown and Louis Partridge, it is about Enola and how she tries to find her mother after she disappears but she runs into a slight complication). Not everything you see is true and sometimes you need to know how to draw a line between what is real and what is fake. If you believe everything you see it's not healthy. Sometimes people can look absolutely okay but you never really know what’s going on behind closed doors. Everything is not always so perfect

"It's the World that needs changing."- Millie Bobby Brown

3) Not everyone gets a happy ending: From the movies- The Fault in our Stars and Five Feet Apart (I think we all know how these movies end). Sometimes you don’t end up how you expected to, everything might not always work out the way you expected things to, I believe that everything happens

for a reason. Maybe it was just not meant to work out. There are some movies that romanticize the whole concept of a happy ending but fail to showcase what is the harsh reality of what is life. You get whatever you work for remember that!

“How long will I live my life afraid of what-ifs?”- Stella Grant

“You gave me a forever within the numbered days, and I'm grateful.”- Augustus Waters

4) You get one life, live it: From the movie- Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (Three friends decide to go on an adventure and one of them runs into their childhood friend who is uptight and hasn’t really adventured much but she invites her and they all go on a spontaneous trip where she experiences how beautiful life can be and they all come together later in the future for their friend’s wedding)- Well, stop living a very uptight life. yes, your future is very important but before you surrender to a job at the desk for the rest of your life go see what life has to offer (obviously after the whole Covid-19 situation blows over). Life has so much to give you and you still have so much to see so stop existing just go and live and enjoy what you were given.

Travelling makes you fall in love – with yourself and with life!- Naina Talwar

5) If someone loves you, no matter what the obstacles are, they will fight to keep you: From the movie- Crazy Rich Asians (Rachel and Nick have been together for many years and Nick takes her to his best friend’s wedding where she finds out that his family is one of the richest, she has to deal with all the jealous families and his disapproving mother)- If someone loves you, no matter what they have to go through, they will do everything in their power to keep you. If it’s meant to be, it will be. If it’s not it will not.

“Perfection comes at a sacrifice,”- Rachel Chu

ree

6) To define is to limit: From the movie- Divergent (This movie is based on a book. Tris chose a different faction which shocked most and she went from the most simple faction to the most daring faction but the truth is, after her aptitude test, she realized that she didn’t belong to only one faction and that is a piece of information that could threaten her life)- If you define yourself as one particular thing, you are closing your mindset to the other endless possibilities you are capable of. Don’t put a label on yourself, keep on experimenting and discovering new things about yourself every day. This world holds endless possibilities

“Fear doesn't shut you down; it wakes you up”- Four

ree

7) Sometimes staying inside your shell is not always a good thing: From the movie: Ten things I hate about you (Kat is one of the people who is very reserved and usually always keeps to herself but a new student comes along and she wonders if keeping to herself is the best thing)- sometimes you don’t need to keep to yourself. Sometimes you just need to talk to someone and just tell them what you are feeling. The most important thing is that you find someone you can trust and know will always have your back. Sometimes you just need to let out all your feeling and that’s not such a bad thing.

“But mostly I hate the way I don't hate you. Not even close, not even a little bit, not even at all.”- Kat

ree

8) Changing your physical appearance doesn’t take away from who you really are: From the movie- Clueless (Cher tries to play matchmaker and gives a makeover to one of the new girls to help her achieve popularity but when that girl becomes more popular, she realized what she had done)- You can change your physical appearance as much as you want but your personality and your traits never really change. Yes, your confidence can increase or decrease but over who makes you, you never really go away. So always stay true to who you really are and if people can’t see that, maybe they don’t deserve to be in your life

"Ugh, as if!"- Cher

ree

9) So what if your different, own it: From the movie: Wonder and The Greatest Showman (Wonder: Auggie looks a little different, compared to the rest of the kids which has prevented him from going to school but suddenly when he goes to school he tries fitting and adjusting to normal life. The Greatest Showman: P.T Barnum tried various jobs but he put together a circus of misfits who put on the greatest show)- Personally, I don’t think looks matter at all. It doesn’t matter how you look, it’s okay if you look different from the others, own it. Honestly, no matter what you do, people are going to judge you anyway so what does it matter what you do. Go your own way, do your own thing

“When given the choice between being right or being kind choose kind.”- Isabel

“The Show Must Go On."- P.T Barnum

10)Stop trying to gain acceptance from people, they don’t even accept themselves: From the movie- Mean Girls (Cady is a new student, she enters public school after being home-schooled all her life. she enters to see the high school hierarchy, trying to fit in, completely changes her and she runs into some complications)- Stop spending so much time getting acceptance, people are worried about their own problems. They are insecure themselves so don’t worry, don’t spend your life gaining acceptance. Find people you love and spend the rest of your life without them

Movies are such a beautiful form of art and entertainment. I think what makes movies so great is that you get to see something come to life from someone else’s perspective. Hope you enjoyed this blog

Hey lunafortis,

Just wanted to let you know there is a fine line between constructive criticism and hate. Instead of making rude comments, you could’ve very politely corrected the grammar if you found something that is not grammatically correct. It is okay for a human to make mistakes. Also if you do not like someones content or someones work, if it does not bother or affect you in any way, it is always better to keep scrolling. No one is forcing you to read and spread hate on something that does not affect you in any way. It is always better to be good person than someone who is not happy and does not let others be happy in doing…

Hey lunafotris,

This is a blog about celebrating other people art. I don’t see the need to after someone else’s hard work and art. I mean I understand where you are coming from having your only passion being giving other people ‘constructive criticism’ considering the clear amount of time and effort you have put into spewing nonsense.. however since I support people’s passions I would like to give you constructive criticism on how to ‘criticise’:

  1. Criticising the minor grammar mistakes in this blog is no help. No one reads this blog for perfect grammar. People read this as it genuinely helps them. Proving that you have an iq of a 3rd grader because you know what a comma is pointless.…

Hello lunafotris,

you seem to be very pressed and annoyed with this girl sharing her opinions and to me I don’t see the harm. As someone who has seen the comments you have left on numerous blog posts they don’t seem to be leaning along the lines of constructive Criticism at all. You commented on her mental health post stating that she has not given proper advice but she has helped me and given me tricks to help with my anxiety.

I do think that constructive criticism is important and one should take feedback and turn it into something positive but there is a certain way you give feedback and to me this is not helpful. Sure there may be…
