Since I didn’t get to do a 2022 recap, I wanted to write a few things that last year taught me. there were a lot of firsts and a lot of ups and downs, and overall, I would say it was a pretty decent year. Last year helped me grow, helped me become surer of myself, and helped me realize the importance of working on and keeping my friendships
So here are some things that I learned in 2022
1. You have to know who your people are-
- By this I mean, you need to know who are the people who will stick with you no matter how hard your life gets
- Since coming one year closer to finishing school, I have found it easier to recognize who are the people who would make the effort to keep in contact with me when we all go our separate ways
- Friends are one of the major reasons I have survived school. No friendship is perfect and there will be downs but there will also be ups and working on them both is what keeps a friendship intact
- Everyone wants to look back and remember that group of people who were there for them through everything
- One thing that is important to remember is that fighting is absolutely normal. The ups cannot come if the downs do not come. But never give up on the people who love you and appreciate you
2. Never lose sight of what is important
- It is so easy to get side-tracked nowadays, with the amount of work increasing with every grade everything feels overwhelming
- Our priorities are all over the place and our life feels out of balance I know it is much easier said than done but not losing sight of what actually matters is important
- I have learned to give time to the things that are important which includes both my mental and physical health
- Last year, I ended up putting myself lower on the list of things that I should have prioritized but only when I got a break did I realize how important it was to take care of myself
3. Sometimes it’s better to just stop everything you’re doing for a while:
- We are always caught up in the rat race of life
- We are so focused on moving forward that sometimes we forget to sit back and take a break
- It is essential to be focused, calm, and present. I read this saying- “You never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory” and I never realized how meaningful it was until I experienced it
- Sometimes we need to sit back and live in the moment. Taking a break is so important
- I did some research about the importance of breaks and here are some of the things I took away:
o Breaks help reduce your stress because it helps you focus on things that relax you
o They help restore your motivation because being on the go all the time can be exhausting
o They can help you see things from a new perspective
4. Failure will come but so will success
- I never knew the importance of “failures are the stepping stones to success” until last year
- Bad things can happen but so can good
- What is important is not focusing on the fact you failed but focusing on why you failed because it can lead you to success
- Everybody has to experience failure in order to motivate them to succeed
- We can always blame our failure on the fact that we were not motivated or that we could have done better but sometimes it is not about motivation, it is about discipline
- Your hard work should come from within and I truly believe that you will be rewarded
- Instead of saying- “Oh, I’ll try harder next time,” think about giving it you’re all the first time
5. A new perspective can change everything
- Looking at things from a new perspective is so important
- It helps you expand your creativity because out-of-the-box problems require out-of-the-box solutions
- I think getting all the facts about something before coming to a conclusion is very important
- Last year has taught me to look at things from every angle before acting on a situation
6. The importance of books, movies, and songs
- These were a huge part of my 2022
- These changed my life and added so much more to it
- Songs help me find comfort when the downs come, movies help me live my ups and books help me escape from reality
- It helps open up new worlds and it gives me a sense of stability in a world that is always changing
Here are some quotes which keep me inspired and I live by:
1. “One day we will look back on days like this and realize that the little things matter a lot more than they would.”- Morgan Harper Nichols
2. “Rock bottoms will teach life lessons that mountain tops never will”
3. “You haven’t met all the people you will love”
4. “A year ago, you did not know today. You did not know how you would make it here but you made it here. By grace, you made it here”- Morgan Harper Nichols
5. “If you were not ready, you would not have the opportunity”- Leo
6. “What if it turns out better than you could have imagined?”
7. “The past no longer exists and the future is not here yet”
8. “Make peace with what did not happen”
9. “If it is out of your hands, it deserves freedom from your mind too”
10. “Flowers still bloom when skies aren’t blue”
There is always room to learn, grow and become a better version of yourself. I hope this year brings everyone joy and happiness. I hope you took away something from all the things I learned last year.
Thanks for reading,
Xx Mahika
