We all have that one character from a television show, a movie, or a book that you love and will always relate to. Sometimes those are the people who can teach the most amazing lessons through their story. We never realize how fictional characters teach us so many lessons and it’s crazy sometimes how much we can relate to the character we watch or read about. So today I took a variety of different characters from movies and books and I picked out the main lesson they teach us.
1. Hermione Granger- Book: Harry Potter series, Author: JK Rowling
So Hermione Granger is one of those most loved characters in the Harry Potter series. She was portrayed as a very brainy character which brings out the lesson she teaches us. Curiosity is one trait we should all have. We all should have that wanderlust in us, after all, if we don’t ask questions we will never get any answers. If we expand our knowledge we can expand our experience. Hermione saved Ron and Harry countless times due to her wide range of knowledge which proves my point. Knowledge is the key. So go out there and answer all the questions you have and who knows you might discover something really useful or interesting?

2. Percy Jackson- Book: Percy Jackson series, Author: Rick Riordan
We all know and love Percy. He was my favourite character in the book, one thing I consistently noticed about him even in the Heroes of Olympus (written by Rick Riordan as well) he remained loyal to his friends throughout and that’s what brings me to my point, loyalty is the key. In any friendship, one of the things I would look for is loyalty because loyalty creates trust and trust is the foundation of a friendship. I would not want someone going and saying bad things about me behind my back. So I live by this phrase- ‘Loyal to those who are loyal to me.’

3. Aurora Firedrake- Book: Avalonia Chronicles, Author: Farah Oomerbhoy
This is one of my favourite series of all time. Aurora was an amazing character and she had to go through a lot when she was just a baby and when she was not even eighteen yet she had to rule a kingdom. She struggled a lot and underestimated herself a lot of times which brings me to the lesson- everything you need has always been inside of you, it is other people who convinced you that you did not. Self-doubt is the worst thing you can. If you know you can do it, trust me you will achieve it so do NOT underestimate yourself you are capable of so much more than you think you are. I recommend this series, you won’t regret reading it!

4. Sherlock Holmes- Book(s): A Study in Scarlet, The Sign of the Four, The Hound of the Baskervilles, The Valley of Fear, Author: Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
The great Sherlock Holmes. There will never be a detective like him (in the world of fiction). The one thing Sherlock teaches us there is more to something than what meets the eye. Attention to detail is so important in life. If you are not observant you will miss out so much in life. Sometimes it’s the little signs and details which point out the important stuff in life. Sherlock teaches us that we should think and observe everything around us. If we have a hunch we should not ignore it, we should follow it.

5. Augustus Waters- Book: Fault in our Stars, Author: John Green
He teaches us the greatest lesson of life, you can have forever in a few days. Happiness is not based on money or any materialistic thing. It’s the little things in life, happiness is not superficial. He managed to live his happiest life with the right person in the right place at the right time. He teaches us that it does not take much to be happy. He also teaches us and me quote, "You don't get to choose if you get hurt in this world, but you do get some say in who hurts you."- Augustus Waters

6. Will Newman- Book: Five Feet Apart, Author: Rachael Lippincott with Mikki Daughtry and Tobias Ianconis
Will teaches us probably the hardest thing in life- sacrifices have to be made for the greater good. Leaving Stella was probably the hardest decision he had to make but he made it for her own good. Sometimes leaving things or walking away is the right decision and the correct decision you will have to make that decision, for your own good and the other person's good.

7. Four- Book: Divergent series (Divergent, Insurgent, Allegiant, Four), Author: Veronica Roth
Four is one of the most loved characters in the Divergent series, he has the most heartbreaking story but at the same time the most fascinating one. He teaches us that Fear doesn’t shut you down, it wakes you up (which is one of the quotes he says in the book). Sometimes facing your fears is the best thing you will do. Your fear is the one thing that holds you back so overcoming it, is the most exhilarating thing you will do and it will give you a whole new meaning in life. Facing your fears makes you stronger, smarter, and braver which is what you require in life.

8. Tris- Book: Divergent series (Divergent, Insurgent, Allegiant), Author: Veronica Roth
She is the main character in this series, the whole plot is based on her being divergent (which means unique in normal terms) (to find out exactly what divergence is you should read the book). So this brings us to today’s lesson, sometimes being unique isn’t a bad thing. Being unique does not mean your weird or someone no one wants to be friends with, it just means your different, and being different is a good thing. It means you have something that other people do not have so instead of hiding it, own it. Just as Tris did eventually in the books.

9. Katniss Everdeen- Book: The Hunger Games series, Author: Suzanne Collins
Katniss Everdeen teaches us something which you keep with you forever. Family always comes first. They are the people who will always be with you no matter what and they always want what’s best for you and they care about you tremendously so never ever turn your back on your family. Just like Katniss volunteered for her sister and was loyal to her just like that we should always remain loyal to our family

10. Draco Malfoy- Book: Harry Potter series, Author: JK Rowling
Draco was the character who was portrayed as a villain but he was just misunderstood and sad. This lesson is very important- Just because someone is mean it does not mean they are a villain it could mean something else so never make an impression of someone until you have met them properly you never know what someone might be going through so maybe talking to that person will help and who knows, you might end up with a friend?

I hope you enjoyed this blog and learned something from it because I certainly did. There is a part two coming really soon with ten more of some of your favourite characters. Keep a lookout!
