Life Lessons Pt4- Cliché

Updated: Nov 2, 2021

This is a slightly different addition to life lessons. I’m taking some of the most cliché pieces of advice and telling you if they really work or not. Hope you enjoy

1. Everything happens for a reason:

- I got this one a lot, this can be a very selective piece of advice

- Some people believe in coincidences and some do not.

- I personally believe that everything happens for a reason, some things are too strange of occurrences to explain

- I also think that this is a great piece of advice. Sometimes when things work out, you look back and realize why you suffered through something in the first place

2. You need to let it go

- Some things are easier said than done, you can believe as much as you want- things like ‘if it’s out of sight it’s out of mind’ but in the end, you are not really letting it go

- I think to let something go, you need to first accept it happened and acknowledge it. You cannot keep running away from things

- It is your choice whether you chose to learn from it or carry it around with you as a burden

3. Treat people the way you want to be treated

- This is quite true, because if you treat someone a certain way they are most likely to treat you the same way

- Does it hurt to be kind? Everyone is going through something and fighting an internal battle

- I would say this is a good piece of advice to give someone

4. Money does not buy happiness

- See the thing is, money is a very temporary concept, and being happy for a temporary time is not all that great

- Besides why should happiness be bought by a material thing, being happy is subjective

- So, I think money SHOULD NOT buy happiness but the world begs to differ

5. Live every day like it’s your last

- I think this is great advice but we should not live by it

- We also have many responsibilities that we need to fulfill

- But we should try new things, and explore the great things out there

- It is a good saying to not take too seriously

6. If you don’t succeed try again

- Sometimes when you fail you have to try again, it is obviously way easier said than done

- Trying shows you are hard-working and that you can look at things from a new perspective

- The fact that you got up and tried again just shows effort

- This is good advice to give but you should mean it when you say it

7. Don’t judge a book by its cover

- This is probably my favourite one yet

- Sometimes you can’t figure out something by looking at it from the outside

- A books cover may look quite boring but if you actually sit and read the book it may be the most beautiful book you have ever seen

- I love this piece of advice because not everything is not what it seems from the outside

8. Your grades do not determine your potential

- I could not agree more, there is so much more to life than just books and how many marks you scored in an exam

- Of course, there is something like being book smart but life is not grades

- You have so much more potential than you know, use it

- As you progress in life, you grow and your mind develops. You see things differently and think differently

- No one is going to ask you how much you scored on an exam five years ago

- This is an amazing piece of advice

9. Be yourself

- This is probably the most cliché piece of advice you can get

- This advice works subjectively

- We as people tend to change our behavior to adjust according to the environment we are in

- If you think about that, we are never truly ourselves

- As easy as it to say be yourself, it takes courage to be the same with everyone because we have this need to be liked by everyone

- I feel like we should change this advice to “Do what you can if they don’t like you at least you tried.”

10. Forgive and forget

- I do not agree with this, if something truly hurt you it is not easy to just forgive someone and forget what happened

- We should talk to the person and tell them why we feel a certain way, and if it is a big deal to you then it is a big deal to you

- Don’t let someone make light of it, if you have a problem you have every right to speak up and tell them what is wrong

- It is your life and you have the right to do whatever you want with it

11. Keep focusing and don’t give up on your goal

- If everything is falling apart, your goal doesn’t look the pretty thing you had viewed it as in the first place

- Over time, feelings and things change. Maybe you want different things now that you wanted then

- It is hard to stay motivated at all times, instead of giving this advice you should talk to the person and ask them why they are giving up the goal they worked so hard for

- Of course, hard work pays off but you cannot do it without a support system. Behind every successful person is a team of people that don’t get enough recognition

12. Time heals everything

- I completely agree with this, sometimes if you give your situation time, one of two things will happen

- Either you will realize that in the grand scheme of things it was not that big of a deal

- Or that everything worked out for the best and you will look back and be grateful that you had a learning experience

- All you have to do is be patient

Hope you enjoyed reading this blog. What is the most cliché piece of advice you have ever received? Did it work for you?
