Life Lessons Pt- 5

1. You can’t make everybody happy- choose your battles

- One thing to always remember is that you cannot please everyone

- You need to choose your battles wisely, know the people that you want to keep in your life and the ones for whom the battle is worth losing

- Sometimes I think we forgot that we can’t be people-pleasers all the time, we only have so much to offer and you can’t really give from an empty bucket

2. Growth is measured in comparison to you and only you

- You can’t measure your progress according to someone else, everyone has different perceptions of what is growth

- Growth can be emotionally as well and physically of course. It is about how much you have developed as a person over the past few years and you understand your likes and dislikes better

- It is not fair to hold yourself to someone else’s standards, so if anyone says anything to you, don’t let it dishearten you because growth is a you thing

3. “People might forget the words you say but they will never forget how you made them feel.” – Maya Angelou

- This is one of my favourite quotes ever which teaches a lot. Yes, people do hold your words against you but if you think about it they never forget the feelings they had

- People hold on more to how they felt at that moment rather than what exactly you said to them

- People don’t understand feeling very much but that’s all they got, holding onto something intangible. Treat people the way you want to be treated

4. Do not be scared to lose what needs to be lost

- Sometimes things just need to be let go, the more you emotionally attach yourself to something, the harder it is to let go

- Sometimes you need to know the difference between holding on to something that makes you happy and holding on to the only thing that makes you happy

5. Communication is a two-way process- we forget that sometimes

- We are so desperate to be understood, we forget to be understanding

- Communication happens both ways, friendships are like that too. You cannot have a one-sided friendship, it doesn’t work like that

- If that friendship doesn’t make you happy then let it go and remind yourself how communication happens both ways

6. Sense and sensibility

- This is equivalent to saying heart and mind

- Sometimes you think with your heart and sometimes you think with your mind

- You need to know when to use your heart and when to use your mind because using the wrong one at the wrong time can make a situation so much worse

7. You can be somebody different to everybody

- That’s the beauty of life, you can be different in everybody's eyes.

- One thing to remember is that someone’s version of you in their head is not your responsibility

- You do the best you can, someone creating an image of you for themselves is none of your responsibility to live up to

- You choose how you make somebody feel and who you want to be to them

8. Just because it’s a bad day, doesn’t mean it’s a bad life

- Sometimes we might have a bad day or a couple of bad days and we feel like the rest of our life is going to be like this

- It’s not a bad life, it’s a bad day which can teach you many things. If everything was presented to us on a silver platter, we would all be billionaires

- Sometimes the chase is more exciting than the result

9. Fix the environment and not the flower

- You grow in an environment, you are most suited to

- Just like the flower needs- water, sunlight, and soil. We have many factors which contribute to our success but if the flower is deprived of any one of these aspects, it will wither

- But you don’t grow where you’re comfortable because you will never feel taking risks is necessary

10. You can’t change the people around you but you can choose the people you want to be around

- You can’t alter peoples personalities because that’s who they choose to be around you but you can change the people you are around

- If you don’t feel comfortable enough to talk openly with someone then you probably need to meet new people

- You have control over the quantity and quality of people you choose to be around and no one can take that power away from you
