Goals

Goals are something which are very important in our lives. It motivates us to achieve more and not just sit there and laze around. It gives you a sense of sanity in your life. Today I’m going to be talking about goals and goal setting.

There are two types of goals- long term goals and short term goals

LONG TERM GOALS

- Long term goals are those goals which are achieved in a long span of time

- By long span I do not mean next month- I mean like three to four months or even a year or two

- These are big goals like publishing a book or getting a job

- You will achieve something big

Advantages- You will achieve something big

- You will be more sure of your future and it gives you a sense of direction

- They give you a purpose to get up every morning and give you a sense of purpose in life

-It is something big, completing it will give you a major sense of achievement

Disadvantages- Patience is one of the key factors in this

- It does take away a little of your motivation, thinking that you work so much for something that seems so far away

- You are a little uncertain whether you will be able to achieve them or not as they happen over a long period of time

SHORT-TERM GOALS

- Short term goals are those goals which are achieved in a short period of time

- They can be goals you want to achieve in the day or in the week

- Keep in mind, a short term goal is not a to-do list. They are to separate things. To-do lists help you manage your time (for tips on time management, you can refer to my blog on time management) however, one of your short term goals can be completing your entire to-do list for the day

- These goals are simple and short

- It is more logical to have more short term goals as opposed to long term goals as your short term goals help you work towards your long term goals

Advantages- They give you a sense of accomplishment

- They motivate you and want to make you achieve more

- It makes you more productive as you know exactly what you need to achieve

- Helps you to see how far you have come

Disadvantages- You may feel like you want to achieve more and more and eventually you will end up biting more than you can chew

- Short term goals do feel like they are a little rushed as you have limited time to achieve them

- In the end, a short term goal is not very satisfying. You feel like you achieved little but trust me you have to be in it for the long run!

- You don’t expand yourself and put yourself out there as opposed to a long term goal

Which one is better?

Many people will say many different things but if you ask me, I think both are equally important, they depend on each other. Without a short term goal, you don’t really achieve enough to work towards your long term goal and without a long term goal, you don’t have a sense of direction in the future. So we should strive to achieve both.

Goal setting

------------------

What is it?

Goal setting is developing a plan of action both short term and long term

Why is it useful?

It is useful as it gives you motivation, helps you achieve things. We all want to be something one day. In order to be that level, we have to know where we are heading in life. Even if you have one goal like finish an online course, it is enough because you know what you have to do and you will work towards it helps you organize your life in a way. I think it is very beneficial

I hope you enjoyed reading this blog, it was a little different but I hope it motivates you to take out a notebook and a pen and write down your goals to give a sense of direction in your life. I hope this gives you an idea of what goals are.

Question of the week: What are your top three goals in life? (it can be long term or short term)
