Today I want to cover two topics that I feel are interrelated in some sort of way. Change- is taking on a new challenge or starting a new chapter in your life. I feel like we never really accept change as a positive thing. We should look at it from a positive point of view- acknowledge that we had the courage to move on and start a new chapter in our life. so here are some tips for you to deal with change that is going on in your life-
1. Be open-minded: go in with an open mind. Don’t already rule out the possibility of this being a negative change. Give it some time, I would say around a week and then make your decision. I completely understand that this is way easier said than done but sometimes it doesn’t hurt to give some things a chance. Remember- change is inevitable Let’s take an example: you read a book because it's talked about everywhere and you have only read positive reviews so you are under the impression that it’s amazing and that is how you end up judging it. You should have the chance to figure it out for yourself
2. Keep something in your life the same: you need to bring change into your life, little at a time. You can’t just wake up one day and have everything different, you need to have some familiar aspect in your life. it could be as simple as having the same breakfast or same morning routine. Change happens in phases and eventually, you learn to accept it
3. Surround yourself with the people you love: everyone needs somebody to help them go through things. You cannot do this on your own, having a great support system is honestly the secret to dealing with change. You can talk about how you feel instead of keeping it all to yourself. This is probably the most important point
4. Try everything: if you are going, then go all out. Try new things which you have never done before and go crazy. See your likes and dislikes, go for new things and remember to have fun because you will never get this opportunity again. It’s like a “you only live once” type of situation
5. Declutter: I don’t only mean physically but also mentally. Change a few things around (remember to keep something familiar like mentioned in point 2). For the most part, remove the things that bring back bad memories or just make you feel stuck in the past in a negative way. Try keeping track of your experience with a journal. Adopt a somewhat of a new lifestyle to go along with the change you're dealing with
6. Ask for help: do not be afraid to ask for help. If you are unsure of something ask for help. It will make it easier to navigate through. Some people think that they can figure things out on their own but most of the time asking for help makes your work ten times easier
7. Reflect upon your experience: it’s always good to look back and see how far you have come since this chapter in your life first started. See how you have grown and moved on from your old life. maybe it could be through a journal or just you looking back and seeing how you have overcome all the challenges in the past. Give yourself some credit, you have made it so far
In order to embrace change, you have to stay motivated, if you go into that chapter of your life already defeated you will never enjoy change the way you are meant. I also have tips that can help you stay motivated-
1. Set goals: this always helps because you have a clear idea of what you want to do and when you want to achieve it so you get motivated in the process. Having a target will only improve your mindset which brings me to the next point
2. Have a positive mindset: this is way harder to actually do but try your best. Go in thinking you will achieve what you came for. Start changing the way you think and the questions that you ask, it will truly help you a lot
3. Find the cause for your lack of motivation: this is very important because if you know the cause then you can change it up a bit to help you feel more motivated to do your thing. It’s always important to find the root cause of something
4. Have a plan: planning always gives you motivation because it gives you a purpose to do something every day and you have full control. It also makes you excited every day to wake up and know what to do instead of wasting your whole trying to figure out what you should do
5. Look at the bigger picture: envision your results and how you would feel after you achieve them. Use that as motivation to keep going. Let’s take an example: you are really overwhelmed during exams but think about when they are over and you’ve done well in all of them and then you don’t have to study anymore for a while. Use that to keep you through exams. Or simply studying, think about the time you finish and you can finally have some time to yourself to do what you are interested in
6. Don’t procrastinate starting your task: if you keep putting off a task, you will never end up starting it which will just put you off your path, and then you have an even longer road to achieving your goal. Once you start, you will be glad that you did. You will push through and achieve what you want to
7. Take the help of other people to stay motivated: ask your friend to remind you to complete your task. Maybe both of you’ll start the task together that way you can keep a check on each other and hold each other accountable. For example: if both of you have exams then you can update your friend about what you study and ask them to hold you accountable and you can hold them accountable, that way you will be more motivated to finish your task
8. One last tip- if you ever find yourself in a hole of YouTube when your meant to be studying or any other task or during your breaks, end with a motivational video. Like watching people be productive and doing their to-do lists, watching people study, and lastly put on some music without lyrics
I hope you enjoyed this blog and you use some tips in your everyday life. change is a big thing but it is not always bad. Staying motivated is hard but not impossible with the right lifestyle
