Balancing your Life

During these hard times, all of us have found it very difficult to differentiate between your work life, your relaxing time, and your social life. We tend to overwork ourselves and not rest enough which leads to burnout. I think I can speak for everyone when I say we have all lost our social skills during the pandemic

Here are some tips I have compiled to help you find a balance in your life.

Some things to help you in your work life:

1. Set certain hours for your work: keep a certain amount of time for your work. Like say from 10 am- 6 pm set hours for the completion of your work and after 6 pm put away your work and take the rest of the day for yourself. Try not to exceed the hours you set for yourself

2. Manage your time: don’t waste time here and there if you are starting work at 10 am then make sure you do, not 10:15 or 10:30. Do your work in such a way where you should finish at the time you set for yourself. Try not to get distracted and manage your time properly

3. When you do your task, give it 100%: don’t do half work. Don’t start a task and then abandon it halfway. If you’re doing an assignment, don’t leave it and move on to another one and give it up. That way, even if you do very little that day, you did it properly

4. Take breaks: this is perhaps the most important, rest when you need to. If you do so much work without taking a break you will exhaust yourself and not be able to do everything properly. Take a break once in a while

5. Do 3 main things and work your way down: start with your 3 main priorities, the most important things that you absolutely have to achieve today. Once those are over then start doing things of less importance but it’s not as important to complete a lot of those less important tasks

6. Keep your phone away from you: your phone is the main cause of your distraction because we have this constant urge to keep checking to see if anyone has texted us. Keeping your phone away will help you. You can even use it to reward yourself. Use it as a reward for completing your task

7. Keep track of the work you have done: write down all the work you have to do for the entire week and keep crossing it off as you finish because there might be some days when you have a little extra time so you can get extra work done!

8. Try finishing your assignments ahead of time: leaving things for the absolute last minute is never a good idea. It increases your stress which decreases your productivity and if you finish it, it makes you feel better in general

9. Do not overwork yourself: this is the most important thing. Do not bite off more than you can chew. Nothing good ever comes from that. Do as much as you can but don’t overdo it, it’s no good for you.

10.Plan out your week: it helps you see what you have to do and gives you a clear overview. You can also break your work into segments to do little every day so you can finish by the end of the week with no stress and meet all your deadlines.

Here are some tips you could follow while you taking some time to yourself-

1. Avoid checking your emails: When you are just resting, don’t constantly keep checking your emails for assignments or anything regarding your work (unless it’s important of course). Just go and relax on your own

2. Listen to your body: If you need a nap, go take it. Otherwise, you will just be sleepy for the rest of the day and you won’t be able to get any work done. Don’t ignore the sign that you are tired because that will not do you any good.

3. Go get some fresh air: I’ve recently realized the importance of going for a walk every once in a while. Try going down to get some fresh air, at least three times a week. It will help you rejuvenate mentally and physically.

4. Indulge in your hobbies: it’s always nice to do something you enjoy. It’s good for your mental health and it is better than going on your phone. So, if you like drawing then go. Draw in your breaks instead of being on your phone!

5. Avoid going too much on your phone: as much as we all want to, it’s not good for you. If you start scrolling through your Instagram it will be very difficult to stop. Of course, there are some apps to help you like 'Forest' - it’s an app which helps you study by keeping you off your phone, and as a reward, you help grow trees on the app. You could always put your phone on do not disturb like I do which helps a great deal.

6. Spend time talking to the people you love: the more you talk with the people you love, the better you feel. Surround yourself with the people you love. It is good for you

7. Listen to some music: I found some playlists that you might like

She is one of my favourite YouTubers- Sadie Aldis, ill link her Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/sadiealdis/

8. Find some new hobbies: discovering more is always a good thing because you might not know that you are actually good at something until you try out a bunch of new things. Who knows, it becomes your favourite thing!

9. Make sure you do not take super long breaks: it decreases your productivity because before you take a break, you are in the zone and after you take a break you feel kind of lazy and it gets hard to concentrate all over again. A ten-minute break is ideal

10. Self-care: the best thing to do is put on a face mask, put on some Netflix, and just chill for the rest of the night. Try doing self-care once your workday is complete so you don’t have to get up and start studying all over again

As for social skills, not sure how long we won’t be able to meet our friends but try calling up one of your friends daily and just tell them everything going on with you and hear them out

Hope you enjoyed this blog and I hope you include some of these tips in your daily life. remember to wear a mask, sanitize your hands and stay safe
