Nowadays I have found it really hard to stay motivated and it has been really hard to get back in the groove of studying every day. Of course, you cannot study all the time and you have your off days and that is absolutely okay but there are times when you cannot afford to take days off. I have compiled 10 points that you can use when you lack motivation
1. Give yourself a reward:
- Set a reward which you will really look forward to if you finish your work, it will help you finish your work faster if you keep that reward in mind
- Be careful that it does not hasten your studying process if you are in a hurry to claim your reward, so I would suggest something appealing but not something that you want right away.
2. Goal setting:
- The best way to stay motivated is to list out all your goals for a certain period of time
- Remember to keep them realistic and achievable so you are more likely to want to make the effort to work towards it
- Making long-term and short-term goals are very important. Knowing what you are working toward will help greatly in motivating you to start at least
3. Have some structure to your day:
- Always write down a daily to-do list so you don’t waste time thinking about what to do
- If you have some extra time, make a weekly plan and a monthly overview, it will help you get organized
- It would help to get a planner or a weekly/ daily spread so you can decorate it and maybe looking at it every day will give you more motivation
4. Remove all your distractions:
- Use the ‘out of sight, out of mind concept.’ If you keep your phone somewhere you cannot see it, it is very likely that you will not stop your studying and go to find it
- Try going to a secluded place, if silence helps you study and ask people to avoid disturbing you until you finish studying
- Anything that could possibly distract you, make it a point to keep it out of your room
5. Study with your friends
- It helps you with accountability. You and your friends can have a study session if you work better with people around you
- There are many websites like discord and there are websites where you can log in into a zoom meeting where everyone is studying (they are just random people so only go ahead with it if you are comfortable)
- You can also just ask your friend to keep you accountable for the day or have a shared google document with your things to do
6. Consistency is key
- Nothing will matter if you don’t stay consistent, you need to keep reviewing your goals at the end of the week to remind yourself why you started
- You need to stay consistent with the amount of work you have to do otherwise if you fall behind, it will pile up which is not good and as the days go on, your motivation will drop
7. Give yourself breaks but keep it smart
- What I mean by that is, breaks are very important for you to regenerate but make sure your break is not too long and too distracting
- I would say according to your workload, you should plan your break. I take (a break) about 15 minutes after each subject
- You can go on your phone but it would help if you read a book or go talk to your family
8. Stay as positive as you can
- The last thing we need is a negative mindset to demotivate you
- Try looking on the bright side of things (even if it is hard). Try appreciating the little things like reading books in your break
- Appreciate the work you put in and never discredit yourself for how far you have come and how much you have achieved
9. Have a clean workspace
- It helps so much, I feel like when all my books are all over the place, I cannot find anything
- My mind feels very cluttered and knowing I’ve put everything in its place helps so much because I don’t feel like I have to constantly clean everything
10. Watch productive videos
- I think personally, this would be my biggest tip to you
- Before I start my studying for the day, I make a point to watch a productive video to motivate me
- Even just using productive apps like Notion or even google calendars or even just your to-do list that is written on paper
- Sometimes it’s about discipline and not motivation
I wanted to talk a bit about this because you cannot always be motivated and you will have off days but on the days that you cannot afford to lose any time, you have to remember that you have to be disciplined enough to study and remember to be consistent. Sometimes you have to be disciplined enough to just finish off the work. You can maybe use some tips from this blog if you want to try to get motivated.
Here are some motivational quotes for you just start and finish your work for the day:
1. “When you feel like giving up, remember why you started”
2. “What is coming is better than what’s gone”
3. “Do it because it makes you happy”
4. “Life isn’t about finding yourself, it is about creating yourself”- George Bernard Shaw
5. “No one is you and this is your power”
6. “Trust the process”
Well, I hope you enjoyed today's blog and it helped you get motivated to start and finish all your work for the day. So now, go finish off all your work, and don’t forget to reward yourself and be proud of yourself for how far you have come.
